We can’t all be captains, we’ve got to be crew,
There’s something for all of us here,
There’s big work to do, and there’s lesser to do,
And the task you must do is the near.

If you can’t be a highway then just be a trail,
If you can’t be the sun be a star;
It isn’t by size that you win or you fail –
Be the best of whatever you are!

如果你不能成為山巔的挺松，
就做一棵谷中的灌木吧！但，
要做一棵溪邊最好的灌木；
如果不能成為大樹。
就做一叢灌木吧！
如果你不能成為一叢灌木，
何妨就做一棵小草；給道路帶來一點生氣！
你如果做不了麋鹿，就做一條小魚也不錯！
並且是湖中最活潑的一條！

我們不能都做船長，總得有人做船員，
不過每個人還是得各司其職，
不管是大事還是小事，
我們總得完成份內的工作。

做不了大路，何不做條羊腸小徑，
不能成為太陽，又何妨是星星；
成敗不在於大小
只在於你是否已竭盡所能。

投資或做企業，應該是先一鳥在手，再想辦抓到第二隻鳥。
一心多用，無法做好任何一件事。就如同沙漏一樣，一次一粒沙。

投資公司，就好比一場籃球賽一樣。應該是專注在每一個好球。而不是比分。就如巴菲特在1985年致股東信提到的，不必擔心每季或每年的帳面獲利數字，而只要將注意力集中在長遠的價值上即可。

洛克斐勒在86歲時，
寫下了這首短詩總結自己的一生：

I was early taught to work as well as play,
My life has been one long, happy holiday;

Full of work and full of play,

I dropped the worry on the way,

And God was good to me everyday.

我從小就被教導既要娛樂也要工作，

我的人生就是一個悠長，愉快的假期；
